There are two types of stress tests, exercise and nuclear. Both tests monitor your heart’s activities during increased activity, or “stress”.
In an exercise stress test, you will walk on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike with your heart rhythm, blood pressure and breathing are monitored.
In the nuclear stress test, your doctor will give you a medicine that mimics the effects of exercise.
Your doctor may order this type of testing to look for signs of coronary artery disease or an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia).
Preparations for testing may vary and your doctor will discuss before the testing. Your doctor will discuss your results at a follow up appointment.
