Dr. Capoocia returns to Hernando County where she practiced for over five years. She has been in practice for over 12 years. She completed her family residency and traditional rotating internship at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine/St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, where she was recognized as Chief Resident. Dr. Capoocia received her medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine.
Dr. Capoocia is a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association and has had active leadership positions in the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member for Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton.
Dr. Capoocia is held in high regard by the medical community in Hernando County. In 2012 Oak Hill Hospital presented her with their Frist Physician Humanitarian Award. She received the award for her reputation as “a caring, compassionate physician who continually demonstrates a genuine concern for others through her efforts in her practice and the community.” Caring for others runs in Dr. Capoocia’ s family. She remembers as a child, her parents opening their home to pregnant, runaway teens and that set the example that led her to give back to her community as an adult. When asked about her philosophy in helping others, Dr. Capoocia said, “It is good to be a good person, we have been very blessed, and we want to give back. There is always someone less fortunate than you. Take care of others when you can, and they will take care of you.”
Dr. Capoocia is married and she and her husband of 17 years have five children. They enjoy outdoor activities, volunteering in the local community church and school fundraisers and special projects.
