Infused Water- A Healthy and Refreshing Drink of Summer

Summer is here along with all of the heat and outdoor fun that comes with it. With fun fruit flavors and unlimited combinations, infused water is a natural, refreshing way to stay hydrated while enjoying all that summer has to offer! Plus, infused water will keep you away from the artificial sweeteners and dyes that are favored in many popular beverages. Healthy, tasty, and fresh, the perfect summer drink.

Infused water, so easy, you can barely call it a recipe. Fruit and herbs are soaked in water for infinite combinations that will delight and encourage you to stay hydrated all summer long! That’s all there is to it. Here are a few tips to help you master the craft!

Fruit & Herbs

You only want to eat fresh fruit and herbs; why would you want to use any less in your delicious drink? Using organic and local produce will give your water the best flavor possible. Also, make sure to rinse your produce before using to prevent any pesticides or other residues ending up in the mix.

Your Container

Using a large pitcher with a lid, preferably glass, is the easiest way to store, serve, and enjoy your infused water. Some stores sell pitchers made with a built-in infuser to hold your ingredients. While not necessary, these can be a fun addition to your kitchen.

Let It Soak

Infusion can take some time. While some ingredients will add flavor to your water immediately (Citrus fruits, melons, mint), other ingredients need some time to soak (apples, ginger, cinnamon.) Prepare in advance to give your infused water 3-4 hours in the refrigerator before enjoying.

Prepping

Hard fruit like apples should be sliced thin to allow the flavor to release more quickly. Softer like citrus can be cut however you’d like. Tear or crush your herbs and roots to allow them to release their oils and juices. Any loose herbs or flowers you want to add can be kept together using a cheesecloth or tea infuser.

Try these fun combinations or create your own! The sky’s the limit!

  • Raspberry Lemon
  • Cucumber Mint
  • Watermelon Basil
  • Blueberry Lavender
